But there have been a couple of things lately...
Last year, we let the yard and garden go. Steve always enjoyed it so much and took pride in our outdoor space, but we gave up. Survival became top priority.
For our first anniversary in 2012, Steve had given me a lily. I like lilies a lot. After our garden got completely overrun by weeds last year, I just kind of assumed it had died. This past weekend, I walked out into the backyard and was awestruck to see the lily standing a foot above everything around it with multiple blooms.
I don't know if that is a sign exactly, just sort of cool, I guess.
The hospital where I work is doing a huge construction project. A couple of days ago, one of the workers walked past me wearing a shirt that Steve wore practically every day.

I know it's not that unique...but I hadn't seen that exact shirt, exact color, exact font before.
On a daily basis, it's incredible how many little things remind me of him.

Count them as coincidences or signs....whatever...but never stop seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary, the unique in the sublime, the joy in the routine. Just collect all of these 'moments' as sweet memories that sustain you in this sad journey. When these moments happen to me I just smile and mentally say 'hi' to whomever I am reminded of. Plan to be surprised.
ReplyDeleteAfter my father- in- law died suddenly, I found comfort in a website...GODWinks. The "signs" are there if we are open to seeing them. Take care. Marsha
