The Story About A Sad Letter

Dear Poppy and Oz:

On a grey and rainy day, following the loneliest winter of my life, your courageous
Daddy died peacefully at 1:11am on March 13, 2015.  I desperately wish that you could have known him.  You would have adored him as much as I did.

  5. Debbie,
I have no words -- sorry just doesn't seem to be of comfort, I'm sure. I'm glad to have met Steve last May, and really enjoyed getting to know him better through all your and your family's stories about him. Much love and prayers to you and Poppy and Oz, and to everyone who loves Steve.

  7. "God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies grey and threatening; when our lives have no music in them, our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage. Flood our path with light, guide our eyes to where the skies are full of promise; give us the sense of comradeship with heroes and saints of every age and so quicken our spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life. Amen" St. Augustine

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family....

  15. I am so sorry for your loss. I have read all of your blog entries and quickly grew to admire your strength, your honesty, and your love story. While Steve has gone way too soon, you have the gift of those two precious children. Hopefully Oz will have Steve's awesome hair and charming grin. Poppy already fills your home with laughter the way her witty father did. I know the weeks ahead will be tough but I hope feel of your children's hugs always reminds you of the unique love Steve and you shared.

  23. As I sit here and read this entry for I don't know how many times. I ask my Lord and Savior, why take a man whose main life goal was to get married and have children? I think, My Lord you gave him a witty and courageous woman to stand by his side. You gave him the children he so desperately wanted. Why did you honor him with these and many blessings and take him in the midst of the blessings?
Tears flow as I ponder these and many questions regarding the death of Steve. I like many have grown to "know" Steve through your many stories and witty post. I have a feeling the saying "rest" in peace has fallen on deaf ears. I feel Steve has found that long awaited Sierra Nevada and enjoying one good cold one. After all, if God allows wine he will surely allow a man who has endured a hellacious 8-9 months a cold beer. Steve will not be here physical, but I truly believe he will always maneuver a special person in your life to stand in for him at the most important places in the lives of you, Poppy, and Oz. Yes, he is no longer here physically, but he will always be near. So, as you weep for the loss of his physical touch I know he will always remain near through the memories, the stories, his children, his family and friends.
I pray that God hold you close and tight through these dark hours. -Erica

My heart breaks for you and those beautiful babies.
My mind keeps going back to the times I would see you and Steve in passing and he would ask how the boys were doing. They we're both deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq for what seemed forever.
You two were and are awesome neighbors.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
