The Story About His Poetry

A poem by Stephen Laswell sent to Deborah Snyder on October 2, 2009.

I must preface his poem by telling you we were both coming down with a cold on this particular day.  Some of the references regard our illness.

I should also share that although Steve loved to send me his poetic creations, they weren't necessarily romantic...or even good, really...but always brought a smile to my face for sure.  :)

So...sensing your anticipation...without further ado...here is Steve's limerick debut...

Enjoy.

AUTUMN FOREST
By:  I P Freely

It's a long day ahead
And my brain still thinks it's in bed
There is no creativity in this place
Shoe's untied again, I curse that lace!

I long for the return home
And the puppies whose fur needs a comb
Instead I'll scratch a couple soft ears
Then reach into the fridge for two frosty beers

A girl will join me by the name of Deb
Whom a wise little man hopes is not dead
Love the idea of spiked coffee with soothing rolling steam
Then comparing snot to see who's more green

We shall laugh and cough the night away
And long be over this dreadful strange day
When we are done and had our fill
We will board a train with a stop in Wakesville

  1. I think it's great! This teacher gives Mr. Laswell an A. I mean, how many poets refer to brains, shoe laces, spiked coffee and green snot in one literary work? I'll bet Frost, Wadsworth--even Seuss could do no better. But you know what really makes this prose divine? He wrote it to you. And you still have it. This makes it a cherished work- even more so- because it was penned by I P Freely. Classic Laswell. I am sure the Library of Congress would be interested in cataloging this fine work. But if not no worries...you have it catalogued in your heart, and that is far better. :)
