June 1, 2015

My brother-in-law, Jerry, tagged me on Facebook yesterday when he shared a link about a confirmed tornado that touched down in my neighborhood on Saturday night.  My friends, Kevin and Lynn, also called to check-in, and my sister-in-law, Marti, sent a text to make sure that all was well.

I joked around with Jerry that I wouldn't have been surprised at this point if we had been blown away.  It's just that kind of year.

I sort of feel like Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump.  After he loses his legs in Vietnam, there is a scene where he is riding out a storm on the deck of a boat with seemingly nothing left to lose and yelling at the world.

A puny little tornado isn't going to get me down!

(Excuse me while I run to go knock on some wood.)

  1. You are right. The tornado was headed to the Laswell house, but realized that a very strong force lived there (Deb Laswell). It did not stand a chance of creating a vortex stronger than what she has endured. That tornado put its puny little tail between its clouds and after one minute, fizzled. Oh, there was some damage but nothing like what it had planned. There is a quote that I like that says: "Don't tell God how big your storm is....tell your storm how big your God is." Kinda like that one. I was going to make some cheesy comment about Dorothy and Oz and all that Yellow Brick Road stuff. But you don't really need that right now. :) I got some calls, too about the tornado. Didn't even know it was this close. But my son (IMPD) was busy in that area keeping it secure until the utilities could come work their magic. This is how it is in life. Some years the storms just keep coming. And then they don't. And it is all good once again.
