Sometimes I wonder what we would be doing right now if Steve hadn't died.

Without the gift of perspective, we probably would have been stressed about caring for two babies, worried about finances and very tired.  It is only because I know that things can get worse...much worse...I imagine we would be having an amazing evening.

All of those corny sayings about...'without the rain, you can't appreciate the sunshine'...'don't know what you got 'til it's gone'...are true.

Unfortunately, I think that I might be 'the lesson' to others...the lesson to appreciate your loved ones to the fullest and to appreciate the present moment since there are no guarantees.

  1. You are a lesson to others about appreciating your loved ones. But I am truly, so very sorry that you and Steve are the 'teachers' of this life lesson. And I have lost loved ones, as well, who engrained this lesson in my soul...to savor the moment and love as much as you can in the time given. Sacrificial lessons that we don't want to learn--but we must. Perhaps this makes sense; I can't seem to capture the value of another person's story and applying it to our lives. I 'get it' but can't seem to stack the words the right way. Your words offer wisdom to those of us plodding along, markers along the journey that great love may not last forever. Things happen to rob us of our future minutes we assume we will be given.
