The Story About Laura Ingalls

Steve's family has two cabins down near Patoka Lake in southern Indiana.  We always enjoyed our trips down that way...in fact, in order to save money, we decided to spend our honeymoon there.  Steve always said it was one of the best trips he'd ever taken.

From the start of our relationship, every once in a great while, I would say something that would catch him totally off-guard.  He would laugh and laugh about it.

Several years ago, I blurted out a sentence that Steve never forgot and always brought up every time we drove that route back from the cabins.

On that particular day, as we were driving past a small home all alone in the countryside, I saw a teenage boy getting the mail from the mailbox.  As he grabbed the handful of letters, he quickly turned and ran back into the house.

When I saw the teenager begin to run, a Little House on the Prairie reference came to mind.  I said something that normally just would have been internal dialogue, but popped out.

I still don't know why Steve got such a kick out of this, but I blurted out my commentary, loudly and excitedly calling..."Ma?...Ma?...Pa sent word."

I like making him laugh.
