You may remember that Steve and I met on Match.com.
We both dated a few people from Match before we found one another. I had my share of bad experiences, but Steve had one story that I always liked to hear. I think that it was a favorite of mine, because it took a lot to get Steve riled up...but I could tell that this must have bothered him a lot judging by his reaction.
Shortly before he met me, he set up a date at a restaurant...I don't even remember which restaurant now. He and this woman were seated at their table and had already ordered their meals and drinks when she got a phone call. She got on her cell phone and started chatting.
Finally after at least ten minutes, Steve motioned to the restrooms indicating that he was going to use the facilities. He left the table and walked straight out to his truck leaving her sitting there with the food (and bill!) still coming. I often smile when I think about how long it may have taken her to realize that he had left for good.
I guess that she must have learned a lesson about being rude that day, because she tried calling him and asking for another date, but he declined politely.
Great story! Until I read that phrase "left for good." I felt sad. He left her for good because she was rude, selfish, etc. But never did Steve dream that one day you would be "left for good" due to a monstrous disease. Somehow that was a haunting string of words. Not to make this post sad, because it is funny and reveals how blessed you were to 'match up'. I just keep peeking into these posts at your lives and wish I had been your neighbors. The Laswells....such cool folk.
