April 26, 2016

I had a New Year's resolution.  It's one that I make almost every year...and every year, I fail to follow through.  In 2016, I decided I would go to a dentist.

Don't freak out...and please don't tell me how horrible this is...

It's been ten years.

It's hard to explain why I've done this.  Especially when I am petrified of shots.  If I had just gone all along, this may not have gotten so out-of-control.  At this point, I was certain that I'd have fifteen cavities, gum disease and a host of other incurable mouth maladies.

For me, it is kinda like when you haven't weighed yourself for weeks...and you are pretty sure you've gained some weight, but you're scared to know, so you don't weigh yourself, and then the problem just spirals.  It's like they say..."Ignorance is bliss."

I called a couple of weeks ago to make an appointment.  I inquired as to whether they accepted my insurance.  When they excitedly told me that they did, I sadly made the appointment.  I had hoped that they wouldn't, and I could just forget the whole thing.

When I went this morning, I was pleasantly surprised by the relaxing atmosphere.  It was almost like a spa.  In the treatment room, there was a TV in front of me.  When they moved my chair back, I was initially confused when I saw the TV on the ceiling.

I know this is probably not a new thing...but if it happened within the last decade, it's new to me!

I almost fell asleep while he was cleaning my teeth.  It was almost, kinda, sorta...a nice break.  I know that sounds entirely ridiculous.

And the best part?

Only two cavities!  And as a bonus gift, they are in the very same area...meaning only one shot!!  I was thrilled.

I want to be a good role model, so I am forcing myself to change some of my unhealthy behaviors.  It's hard having babies.  It forces you to try improve when you just want to wallow.  Grrrrrrrrrr.
