It's Veteran's Day (Remembrance Day in Canada). Thank you to everyone who has served. We saw a great story last night on the national news about the poppy flower and an amazing display of ceramic poppies at the Tower of London. I would love to see it in-person some day. It was a beautiful memorial!
Last night, our Poppy woke up at 10pm. I couldn't do it. I could not go one more night. Steve and I both got on our computers at our wits end. Some websites said to go to them and cuddle. Others said to let them "cry it out." Some suggested a combination of both...Controlled (HA!) Crying. A lot of research told us it was common to have no trouble for months and then around the year mark experience some problems. It's funny that I'm a corporate trainer by trade, but the term "Baby Sleep Training" seems so cruel. But I must remember that the real cruelty here is when Mommy gets no sleep! :)
So, I just laid there and didn't go to her. Isn't that awful? I let her cry. I felt really bad. And let me add that we knew she was warm and changed and fed adequately. All basic needs met! I looked at my phone around 11pm wondering just how long she could scream. And then...magically...I woke up, and it was 4am...and I realized she did it! She fell asleep on her own. Just like the blissful olden days.
Some of Steve's parenting CDs said that letting her cry it out could potentially cause a psychological problem...she won't know that we are always there for her. She won't feel secure in life. I really hope this is not true, because I care very much about her psyche, but I also SUPER enjoyed our family getting some sleep.
