January 13, 2017

We were goofing off one evening this week and captured some fun pictures.

Oz is enjoying the hair dryer that came with Poppy's doll for Christmas.  I am hoping that he becomes a world-famous hair stylist.  He could cover up my grays on a regular basis.  Let's imagine my face with much, much better hair!!!  I'd be unstoppable :).

I crack myself up sometimes.

I have a hard time not being critical of myself in pictures.  In the ones of Poppy and me, my shirt makes me appear to have at least three stomach rolls...but, she looked so incredibly cute and happy that I couldn't resist posting.  Love her smile.

January 6, 2017

We went to Jingle Rails at the Eiteljorg Museum on Monday.  It was a really fun excursion, and Ozzy was FASCINATED by the trains.

It was hilarious to see his exaggerated arm motions when a train would go out of sight, and he said, "ALL GONE!!!" with tears in his eyes.  That boy really likes trains...and horses, too!

We were there for about two and a half hours and having fun!  Then it happened.  I'm not exactly sure what "it" was...but it definitely happened.  Poppy started to have a little ginormous meltdown.  She wanted to ride in the stroller, but she didn't want to ride in the stroller.  She wanted me, but she didn't want me.  She told me to "Go Away!"  But she yelled at me when I complied.  Her eyes looked really heavy.

Like a ticking bomb, I knew we had limited time to escape.

Then Oz started in.  As Poppy commenced screaming, I began to panic.  Michael carried Oz, and I snatched Poppy up.  He asked if he could take Poppy for me, but like a rat in a maze, I was just focused on how to get out.

"Just get out, just get out, just get out," I chanted to myself.

As my walk turned into a jog, I pushed the now-empty stroller at Brenda and Mom from 20-feet away and called out my goodbyes.  My eyes darted around frantically looking for the exit as I carried my huge screaming toddler.  I felt disapproving faces around me. I wanted to plead for leniency, "I know she looks older, but she's only three...and really just turned three."

As Michael offered assistance to me once more, my voice rose, "You take the lead, just get us out of here."  It reminded me of a heist movie.  I wanted to yell, "COVER ME!" while he led the way through the throngs of enemy fire (and stink-eyes).  But instead, I focused on quickly following him on a winding path through the masses...never making eye contact and acting like I couldn't hear a thing.

I'm coo!  Nothing to see here.  Everything is completely normal.

When we finally got to the parking garage, her sobs had become inconsolable, and I put her down for a moment to give my arms a break.  She blindly began to run through the garage, and I broke into a sprint when I saw her approaching a traffic lane.

When I picked her up this time, the crying and screaming suddenly ceased. She wrapped her arms around my neck as tight as she could and clung to me quietly.  It was the best hug ever from my tired little girl.

"Whassup horsie?"

He did not like the rocking of the stagecoach!

My niece looks like she belongs on a stagecoach.  She's a tough cookie!

One of my other sweet and mischievous nieces!

Now to transition this skill to from the Eiteljorg to our home.  :)

Waiting for a train to pass us at the amazing Jingle Rails display.

Making a fire.  Scary!

Serious conversation with Poppy. :)

Serious conversation with Oz. :)

Michael and the kids shopping at the General Store.

All four of them captured in one picture -- Aargh!  We need Ashlynn though!

January 3, 2017

My mother hosted a "kid party" for New Year's Eve this year.  It was so wonderful of her and reminded me of the last New Year's Eve that Steve and I spent together...when he was so frail, huddled in front of the fireplace and saying that he really wanted to have a New Year's Eve "little kid party" in the future, but was afraid he might not be able to.

It made me happy/sad to see the festivities and how it came true, but without Stevie.  I was hoping that somehow he could see us and know that the things he dreamed of are happening.

Happy 2017 to all of our family and friends!

Champagne flutes ready to go...

Toddler Snack Table -- Dancing can give you the munchies!

Speaking of dancing... :).  Poppy has seriously got some "Elaine from Seinfeld Dance Moves."

What's a NYE party without spitty noisemakers...

or occasional unwanted attention?

Note in the picture above, Poppy's hoarded pile of party supplies.  Recently, I have been having a heck of a time trying to work on sharing.  She will pull every toy in sight into one pile and then lie on top of it with arms outstretched to prevent Oz from playing with anything.  Ugh!  I've been calling her my little hoarder.

In the picture below, I tried and tried and tried and tried to get a picture of them with Grandma, but it just doesn't work.

As with any party, there was a little bit of downtime to look at Facebook and play with cars.

Because we couldn't get a good group shot, I decided to get selfies with all of the main players at the party.  Hoping next year to get some pictures with my sweet niece, Ashlynn, as well.

December 29, 2016

With four toddlers, lots of adults and one poor preteen that has to put up with all of us, it was a full house at my Mom's for Christmas (which we celebrated on the 26th).  Mass chaos when the gift opening started, but fun times!  We tried to open one at a time, but sometimes it got a bit nutty.

Poppy's new doll with hair styling equipment.  Ozzy loves the hair dryer!

Uncle Jerry read Oz his new Curious George book.  He took it very seriously!

Oz's new pajamas. I always try to change them into jammies right before we leave.

Poppy's new pajamas.

One last snack and Paw Patrol before leaving!
